Shopify Plus is Shopify’s enterprise plan. It targets established and growing stores, B2B merchants, and brands that sell internationally. You get the same easy platform as standard Shopify, plus advanced B2B, a fully customizable checkout, higher automation limits, multiple stores, and dedicated support.
The honest core point up front: for smaller stores, Shopify Plus is overkill. Standard Shopify (Basic, Grow, Advanced) covers most requirements. Plus only pays off once your revenue, your B2B share, or your checkout requirements push the standard plans to their limits. Jump straight to the worth-it check.
- • What it is: Shopify Plus is Shopify's enterprise plan for growing stores, B2B, and international merchants.
- • Cost: from ~2,300 €/month, revenue-dependent and negotiable. Not comparable to Basic at 36 € or Advanced.
- • Core benefits: advanced B2B, fully customizable checkout, higher API limits, multiple stores, and Shopify Markets for internationalization.
- • When it's worth it: roughly from ~15,000 € monthly revenue or with real B2B/enterprise requirements.
- • When it's not: for smaller stores without B2B or special checkout needs, standard Shopify is fully sufficient.
What Is Shopify Plus?
Shopify Plus is Shopify’s enterprise plan. It combines the platform’s familiar simplicity with features that larger operations need: advanced B2B, a fully customizable checkout, higher automation limits, and the ability to manage multiple stores under one roof.
The decisive difference is not in the basic function but in the headroom. Standard Shopify and Shopify Plus run on the same infrastructure. So you do not get a completely different platform, but more control, higher limits, and tools for requirements that smaller stores simply do not have.
On top of this comes the Organization Admin: a top-level management layer through which you control multiple stores, user permissions, and domains centrally. If you run only a single small store, you do not need this layer. If you manage multiple brands or country stores, it saves a lot of time.
Shopify Plus is not a different product but the enterprise tier of the same platform. If you already know Shopify, the learning curve is minimal.
Since B2B basics and price lists landed in the standard plans, the real reason to jump to Plus has narrowed. For me it comes down to two things you genuinely can’t replicate elsewhere: deep checkout customization through Functions and Scripts, and running several stores under one Organization Admin. If neither is on your list, I’d stay on Advanced and put the price difference into your catalog.
What Does Shopify Plus Cost?
Shopify Plus starts at around 2,300 € per month. The exact price is revenue-dependent and negotiable. At higher revenues, a percentage share of revenue is often agreed if it exceeds the base price.
For comparison, it helps to look at the standard plans. Basic starts at ~36 €/month, the mid plan at ~105 €, and Advanced at ~384 €. The jump to Plus is therefore large. That is exactly why the price question is above all a question of your volume and your requirements.
| Plan | Price/Month | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | ~36 € | Small stores, starting out |
| Grow | ~105 € | Growing stores |
| Advanced | ~384 € | Larger stores, more reporting |
| Shopify Plus | from ~2,300 € | Enterprise, B2B, international |
Important: on top of the base fee, transaction fees apply on every plan if you do not use Shopify Payments. On Plus, these terms are usually more favorable than on the standard plans. You can find exact figures on the standard prices in our guide How Much Does Shopify Cost?.
Do not let the base price scare you off or dazzle you. What matters is the total calculation: base fee, transaction fees, app costs, and saved development costs. Only this sum shows whether Plus pays off.
Calculate the return realistically. Those who migrate from an expensive enterprise system often pay only a fraction of their previous costs with Shopify Plus. Our migration calculator shows you how much you could save in just a few minutes.
What Can Shopify Plus Do That Standard Shopify Cannot?
Shopify Plus unlocks features that are missing or heavily limited in the standard plans. These six areas make the difference.
Advanced B2B: B2B basics like business customers (company accounts) and price lists are now also available in the standard Shopify plans. Plus goes considerably further: B2B and D2C in a single store, more company locations, finer control over pricing rules and approvals, plus scaling built for genuine enterprise requirements.
Custom checkout customization (Plus-exclusive): deep checkout customization, meaning your own checkout logic, your own fields, and your own checkout design beyond standard apps, is reserved for Plus alone. Through Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Functions, and (in the B2B context) Scripts you control discount logic, shipping rules, payment options, and upsells according to your own rules. This is one of the strongest reasons for Plus, because standard Shopify allows only little beyond the predefined apps here.
Higher API and automation limits: Shopify Flow (automation) and Launchpad (scheduled actions like sales or product releases) are Plus-exclusive. On top of that come higher API limits, important for stores with many integrations or high order volume.
Multiple stores and expansion stores: Plus includes multiple stores in one contract, for example for additional brands or countries. Expansion stores let you build dedicated storefronts for individual markets.
Shopify Markets: the internationalization feature for multiple currencies, languages, country-specific prices, and domains. Standard Shopify offers basic functions, Plus raises the limits significantly.
Organization Admin and dedicated support: central management of multiple stores plus personal support. At launch, a Launch Engineer supports you, and afterwards you have prioritized support access.
Who Is Shopify Plus Worth It For?
Shopify Plus is worth it for established and fast-growing stores with the corresponding volume or special requirements. As a rough rule of thumb: from around 15,000 € monthly revenue, the upgrade becomes interesting, at the latest when you hit concrete limits of the standard plans.
These profiles benefit the most:
- Established D2C brands: high order volume, many integrations, need for automation via Flow and Launchpad.
- B2B and wholesale merchants: business customers, individual price lists, payment terms, and approval processes.
- International merchants: multiple markets, currencies, and languages via Shopify Markets.
- Multi-brand companies: multiple stores under one Organization Admin.
- Migrations from enterprise systems: stores switching from commercetools, SAP Commerce, VTEX, or OroCommerce that want enterprise features at a fraction of the cost.
For smaller stores without B2B and without special checkout needs, Shopify Plus is not necessary. Standard Shopify (Basic, Grow, Advanced) fully covers these requirements. An upgrade only pays off with matching volume or clear functional gaps.
The honest test: note down which standard limits are currently slowing you down. Do you lack advanced B2B? Do you want to customize the checkout deeply? Are you hitting API limits? Do you manage multiple stores? If you answer at least two of these questions with yes, Plus is worth a close look. If not, save the money.
What Does Shopify Plus Offer for B2B and International?
For B2B and international merchants, Shopify Plus is the point where Shopify turns from a pure B2C system into a real enterprise tool. Both areas are built in natively, not solved through fragile app constructions.
Advanced B2B: B2B basics like company accounts (business customers) and price lists are now also available in the standard Shopify plans. Shopify Plus builds on this and delivers advanced B2B: B2B and D2C in a single store, more company locations, larger scaling, plus finer control over pricing rules, payment terms, and order approvals. Business customers and end customers can be served in the same instance, which greatly simplifies maintenance and data management.
Internationalization via Shopify Markets: you manage multiple markets centrally. This includes local currencies, translated storefronts, country-specific prices and domains, as well as adjusted tax and shipping rules. This way you sell in multiple countries without having to build a completely separate store for each one.
Exactly this combination makes Plus attractive for merchants who still sit on heavy enterprise platforms today. Many switch from commercetools or SAP Commerce to Shopify Plus because they get the same enterprise features but pay significantly less for licensing, maintenance, and development.
Shopify Plus vs Standard Shopify: When to Upgrade?
The right time to upgrade is when the standard plans concretely slow you down, not when revenue simply rises. Revenue alone is a rough indicator, the feature gap is the better one.
| Criterion | Standard Shopify | Shopify Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Base price/month | ~36 € to ~384 € | from ~2,300 € |
| Target group | Small to larger stores | Enterprise, B2B, international |
| B2B | B2B basics available | Advanced B2B (B2B and D2C in one store, more company locations) |
| Checkout customization | Limited (apps only) | Fully customizable (Extensibility, Functions, Scripts) |
| Shopify Flow / Launchpad | Flow limited | Full including Launchpad |
| Multiple stores | No | Yes (incl. expansion stores) |
| Shopify Markets | Basic functions | Extended |
| Organization Admin | No | Yes |
| Support | Standard | Dedicated, Launch Engineer |
Upgrade if at least one of these points applies to you:
- You need advanced B2B: the standard plans cover the B2B basics, but B2B and D2C in one store, many company locations, and large-scale operations are Plus only.
- You want to customize the checkout deeply: complex discount, shipping, or payment logic via Functions and Scripts.
- You hit API or automation limits: many integrations, high volume, need for Flow and Launchpad.
- You manage multiple stores or countries: multi-store and Shopify Markets centrally via the Organization Admin.
If none of this applies, stay on standard Shopify. A premature upgrade ties up budget you would better put into marketing or product.
How Do You Switch to Shopify Plus?
The path to Shopify Plus depends on where you stand today. For existing Shopify stores it is an upgrade, for users of expensive enterprise systems it is a real migration.
From standard Shopify: the upgrade runs within the same ecosystem. Your data, themes, and most apps stay in place. You talk to Shopify sales, negotiate the terms, and then unlock the Plus features. The technical effort is low, the focus is on setting up the new features like B2B or Markets.
From an enterprise system: those coming from commercetools, SAP Commerce, VTEX, or OroCommerce do a full migration. This is about product data, customer accounts, order history, individual B2B structures, and above all SEO-safe redirects so that no rankings get lost.
This is exactly where we come in. We at store2x specialize in migrations to Shopify, especially for merchants who want to switch from expensive enterprise platforms to Shopify Plus. We handle data migration, B2B setup, and redirects completely. You can find an overview of all source systems in our migration hub.
